Three Birds Renovations - House 17 Q&A

THREE BIRDS RENOVATIONS

Was there a particular feature of the renovation that influenced your choice of window coverings?

Absolutely! The oversized windows in the main living area were designed to let the sunshine pour in and give a seamless view of the sparkling new swimming pool and alfresco area. These windows became a hero feature of the home - and with west-facing exposure, we needed curtains that could tame that fierce afternoon sun, dial up the privacy, and bring a layer of softness to all that glass.

We landed on Kori curtains in Eggshell - a divine thermal-lined fabric that strikes the perfect balance between light filtering and block-out while draping like a dream.

What colour scheme did you choose for the interiors, and why?

We coined the look for this Californian Bungalow reno Cali Cool - a blissful mash-up of four gorgeous design styles: the earthy feels of Coastal, the eclectic soul of Boho, Scandi minimalism’s airy calm, and the timeless charm of Mid-Century. Together, they create a relaxed yet refined aesthetic that feels effortlessly cool and totally liveable.

We embraced a palette of soft neutrals, warm whites, and earthy tones to create a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere. The Luxaflex window coverings were the cherry on top - selected to seamlessly blend into the palette while adding gorgeous texture and mega functionality.

Why did you choose Luxaflex products for this project?

Because when you’ve got a ‘must-have’ list that includes style, smarts, insulation, and ease of use, you need a brand that can deliver on all fronts - and we knew from experience Luxaflex was up to the task.

Their PowerView® Smart Automation was a total game-changer for electric blinds (hello, remote control everything), and the wide range of fabrics and finishes meant we could tailor each window treatment to suit the room's mood and purpose.

How have Luxaflex products contributed to the style and design of the home?

Luxaflex provided the perfect finishing touch to each room, adding sophistication and softness to the interiors.

The block-out curtains in the nursery, the room-darkening Pirouette Shades in the kids’ bedrooms, and the luxe drapes in the living areas all work together to enhance both the function and style of the home.

Have Luxaflex products improved energy efficiency?

Big tick here! With the back of the home facing west, managing heat was a non-negotiable. Luxaflex coverings, combined with high-performance glazing, keep things cool in summer and cosy in winter.

And thanks to the PowerView® Automation we have automated blinds that sync with the sun, adjusting throughout the day to keep the temps (and energy bills) in check. What’s not to love?

How do the Luxaflex products complement lighting and ambience?

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood in any home. Luxaflex’s range allows for precision light control - from the soft diffusion of Pirouette Shades in the kids’ bedrooms to the blackout functionality in the nursery.

Each selection was made to enhance natural light during the day and create a warm, cocooning effect at night.

Which Luxaflex curtains and blinds were used, and why?

Living Room

  • Kori Curtains in Eggshell (thermal-lined) – for large windows and alfresco doors
  • Valencia Pirouette in Calatrava – for smaller windows flanking the fireplace

These selections provide privacy, insulation, and a soft, flowing aesthetic, while the Pirouette Shades work perfectly for high-set windows.

Primary Bedroom

  • Sheffield Roller Blinds in Cedar (translucent) – bay window
  • Kori Curtains in Ginger (thermal-lined) – over the blinds for extra warmth and privacy
  • Sheffield Roller Blinds in Cedar (block-out) – highlight windows above the bed

The Ginger coloured curtains add depth and warmth, complementing the room’s earthy palette.

Nursery

  • Kori Curtains in Ginger (block-out)

Paired with Dulux Terra Rose walls, these curtains create a luxe yet soothing nursery environment.

What has been the most satisfying aspect of the design?

The ability to blend beauty and functionality. This home stands out for its unique mix of design styles and thoughtfully curated details, from reclaimed brick walls and rattan cabinetry inserts to the herringbone floorboards and cheeky checkerboard tile patterns in the pool and BBQ zone.

What challenges did you face, and how did Luxaflex help overcome them?

One of the biggest design wins of this home was the open-plan extension - it created much-needed extra space the homeowners required and that dreamy indoor-outdoor flow we love. But with big open spaces and even bigger windows comes the challenge of managing temperature and privacy without messing with the vibe.

That’s where Luxaflex came in hot (but kept the house cool). Their smart, stylish window coverings gave us total control over light and heat, without blocking the connection to the outdoors.

Did you visit a Luxaflex showroom? If so, why was it important?

You bet we did! There’s nothing like seeing (and touching) fabrics in real life, watching PowerView® Automation in action, and picking the brains of the experts. The Luxaflex team were total legends and helped us bring the House 17 vision to life.
